In order to receive reimbursement from Maryland Medicaid, doulas must be trained & certified as both a birth and postpartum (or Full-spectrum doula) by a Medicaid approved doula certification organization. You can reach out directly to any of the approved organizations to start your certification process.
Doula insurance, also known as doula professional liability insurance or malpractice insurance, protects doulas from legal expenses and personal assets if they are sued for malpractice. One popular doula insurance company is CM&F, but you can find others by doing an internet search. You must have doula insurance to be reimbursed by Maryland Medicaid. Proof of liability insurance does not have to be uploaded in ePREP. Providers should keep proof in their records for reference.
To be reimbursed as a doula by Maryland Medicaid, you must pass a fingerprint criminal background check. You can get your background check done at Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS). You will need a "Maryland State Fingerpring Background Personal Check". If you have more questions about the background check, call CJIS at 410-764-4501.
